Palacio de Bellas Artes Sliced

Richard Silver

About the artwork

The Palacio de Bellas Artes (Palace of Fine Arts) is a prominent cultural centre in Mexico City. The palace has a mixture of a number of architectural styles; however, it is principally Art Nouveau and Art Deco. Art Nouveau dominates the exterior, which was done by Adamo Boari, and the inside is dominated by Art Deco, which was completed by Federico Mariscal. Since construction began in 1904, the theatre (which opened in 1934) has sunk some four metres into the soft soil of Mexico City.

Richard Silver (USA) is New York born and bred but to him, home is where his camera is. Richard has visited 89 countries and more than 300 cities in his life.
Richard’s love for travel has afforded him many opportunities to shoot different cities and cultures. He loves iconic architecture, whether it’s ancient or modern, and is always focused on documenting beautiful structures in each new city he visits. Richard loves using techniques such as Vertical Panoramas and Time Slice to present our everyday world in an altered visual context.
His work has been exhibited in museums and galleries around the country, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Skyscraper Museum, LaGrange Art Museum and Krause Gallery in New York.
